Decode 4-band resistor colours

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read a resistor colour code?
For a 4-band resistor, the first two bands are digits, the third is the multiplier (power of ten) and the fourth is the tolerance. For example brown-black-red-gold = 10 × 100 = 1,000 Ω ±5%.

Work out a resistor’s value and tolerance from its colour bands.
